    The American Medical Student Association (AMSA), with a half-century history of medical student activism, is the oldest and largest independent association of physicians-in-training in the United States.

    Today, AMSA is a student-governed, national organization committed to representing the concerns of physicians-in-training. AMSA members are medical students, premedical students, interns, residents and practicing physicians. Founded in 1950, AMSA continues its commitment to improving medical training and the nation’s health.

    AMWA membership is comprised of physicians, residents, medical students, and health care professionals.  AMWA is the only multispecialty organization dedicated to advancing women in medicine and improving women’s health.

  • Association for Women in Science

    Association for Women in Science

    In 1971, at the annual FASEB meeting, flyers were posted inviting women scientists to a champagne mixer and meeting to encourage the exchange of ideas and solutions to overcoming job discrimination, lower pay, and professional isolation. Those 27 women who took the initiative to make science a better place for women founded the Association for Women in Science (AWIS), today’s premiere leadership organization advocating the interests of women in science and technology. For nearly 40 years, the Association for Women in Science has fought for equity and career advancement for women – from the bench to the board room.

    Association of American Medical Colleges, Group on Women in Medicine and Sciences

    In August 2009, the AAMC’s Board of Directors approved the creation of the Group on Women in Medicine and Science (GWIMS). This action established the longstanding Women in Medicine program as a formal AAMC professional development group, congruent with other AAMC groups.

    The Association of Women Psychiatrists (AWP), founded by Dr. Alexandra Symonds in 1983, is the only organization of women psychiatrists. There are over 12,000 women psychiatrists in the United States, and many more throughout the world.
