American Medical Women’s Association (AMWA) Meeting in NYC a Sell-Out!!!

Women’s Medical Organizations Are Important for the Future of Medicine

amwaMany have questioned the relevance of women physician’s organizations.  I am not one of them.  A few months ago I wrote about three important meetings this spring for women in medicine–AMWA in NYC, Women’s Health Congress in DC, and Women in Surgery in San Francisco.  Their popularity is a testament that women physicians see themselves as having an important role in shaping healthcare and their own careers.  This role cannot be realized fully within male dominated organizations, not because of lack of will but because it just takes them too long to change and adapt.

The fact that AMWA has a sold out crowd is worthy of a column.  So for those of you not coming, here is what you will miss.  Stay tuned at WMDR where we will keep you up with the up-coming women in medicine venues, so the next opportunity will not pass you by!

Where? March 15-17, New York City, Helmsley Palace Hotel.

What?  Lectures, Scientific Poster Sessions, Committee Meetings, Focus Groups, Keynote Speakers, Networking Events, Workshops, Gala Cruise and much, much more.

Who?  330 Women physicians, residents and medical students who care about women patients and women physicians.

Why?  We know that women physicians have a harder time getting the jobs they want, the careers they imagined and the access to the resources they need to make their fullest contribution to the medical profession.  So we have our own meetings to give voice and to give our energies to making healthcare for everyone what it needs to be–the best it can be.

How?  AMWA has committees and task forces on patient advocacy, legal and legislative matters, patient care, and gender equity, to name a few.  There are many opportunities to get involved as almost all of AMWA’s working groups are open.

WMDR is committed to keeping you in the know about Women in Medicine.  We will be reporting live from NYC and keeping you informed about upcoming events.  And if you haven’t yet registered from the Women’s Health Congress, it’s not too late!
